I just got back from San Francisco where for the first time I felt like a little bitch. Let me preface this post with saying that I have loved Puts for the past few years. I have been making mixtapes with their music for sometime and sending/trading them with friends who are also Puts fans. When I first heard Puts, I was in a slump with hiphop in general. I used to be excited for groups like Blackstar, KRS1, Blackalicious, NWA, etc but felt that a lot of that old school, funky hip hop sound had been lost. That all changed a few years ago when I heard The Next Step. This album along with the others (including American Men Vol 1) has made me realize that the true art of hip hop lives in a world dominated by terrible music.
With all that said I couldn't wait for Stepfather. So of course on the 18th I grabbed the new album. I listened to it about three times in a row and got that good old feeling like when you are diggin for breaks and you find a gem. It's the music that makes you remember what it's all about. It's those old breaks and loops that are a collage of art conducted by my man Thes One. The creativity, the hard work, the determination, the diggin and just the overall sacrifices that the Dub K and Thes make to bring these beats to our eardrums is unparalleled. There are very few artists today of any medium of art that are as talented as these two cats from West LA.
So back to me being a bitch. I got to Amoeba Records at 6pm on April 26th in anticipation for the P. I had my copy of Stepfather in back pocket in hopes that I could get an autograph. A few songs by Time Machine were tight and so were Puts. So I'm working my way to the front and hoping to say hello to Dub K and Thes. My girlfriend ran up and got her picture btw the both of them and that's when the starstruckness set in. I'm standing right in front of both of them frozen like a little kid. I hand my cd to Dub K and he signs it and gives it to Thes. Meanwhile I have a million things running thru my mind of things I want to say. All I could utter was a "Thank You". And we left. Just like a deer in headlights I was dumbfounded. The concert at Independent was dope and I had some great pics and a signed album. All in all it was a great night. I'm hoping to make it to the show in LA and San Diego in the beginning of June. For the first time in my life I was speechless! Peace.

Yo noo where were you standing at the Amoeba show? I was in the very first isle to the left, hella pointing at Thes during Tuxedo Rap.
What tracks did they spin at the Independent? I was f**king pissed I wasn't able to go... -

Acid Raindrops, SF Knights etc and most of the new sh!t. The problem with People Under The Stairs concerts is that there is never enough time. There are too many tracks. Tracks like The Dig, Slow Bullet, Dangerous, Down and Out and Knuckle Sandwich get left out for the sake of time. I was on the far left up front at Independent and noticed this huge digital clock on the stage that crowd couldn't see. And Thes kept looking at his watch throughout the show. Granted they can't perform all night and there are constraints when on tour. However, I would like to see an outdoor show that starts at about 4 in the afternoon. And just go thru the P library. Just cover all the sh!t ever put out. Rock that sh!t all evening with no time constraints. Then bring out George Clinton for the Doctor and Kidd Drunkadelic. Chain smoke reefer blunts and put it down for the P. We gonna start a new system. Gonna be bigger than Death Row nigga you got beats? I'm sure it was a joke at the time. Its slowly becoming a reality. Big up. -

But yeah jacko. Do an outdoor jam in SoCal with big lawn. An afternoon with the P. You're probably right about leaving the fans wanting more but its like a bad case of the blue balls. Yo Thes can't you get Rymes Clothing Company to sponsor an 8 hour show that chronicles the life and times of Mike and Chris? I'll hand out flyers all over Northern Cali. Give me a call we can make some money. Me and my homeboy. -

Ok so back to the outdoor concert. The afternoon with the P. The whole concert is described in the first verse Jamboree pt. 1.
"Put on your shorts light up the grill. Hot August Saturday we gonna lay around and chill. At the bottom of the hill there's a store BYOB... Everybody's laughin as the sun starts to set doing it now to have a night you'll never forget."
Ya'll know you can picture it. Blunt passin, brew drinkin, music courtesy of the P. Just another Los Angeles Daze.
Oh and domestic dialect. I don't know what's more impressive the fact that you went to a War concert or that they had as much energy as Thes on stage.
