been out about 3 weeks.. my interpretation of the title 'stepfather' is like, PUTS aren't the original fathers/founders of hip hop but they are there trying to fill the place. maybe put the young punks in order a bit. plus get the wife
but it's definitely a progression, I mean no rapping about record digging, or about being an emcee, or even any disses? A broader range of samples, maybe even the album is less hip hop, in that it's not a stereotypical drums and loops kinda format, it's just music, compositions.
plus More Than You Know and Days Like This show a more thoughtful side, maybe only previously done in Give Love A Chance ?
other things i'm feeling:
- the way Flex Off changes up halfway through (and the kinda 80s vibe skit afterwards)
- how jamboree pt 2 has that accurate party wind-down vibe complete with kk and thes drunk acting
- Some of the echos/reverbs (not down with the techinical lingo) effects are fresh
- the Brownout organ (?) and KK going "brrrrrrrrup!" and the outro
- the whole of the last 6 tracks. just amazing
- "I disagree homeboyboyboy"

Posted 20 years ago #i love the outros/interludes of the songs:
1. "i told you'd like it" "i don't like it...it's soft!"
2. "motherfucker give me nightmares"
