Gotta help me mang.
Me and two homies are moving to L.A. in early September. They're attending LARS on Sunset. I got an internship lined up on Wilshire.
We need to locate apts. Yes we're scouring apartnents.com but what they don't do, is let us in on how the neighborhood is. I don't get spooked, but my two friends have been living in a small white town for their whole lives.
We're eyeing a place at Crenshaw and Pico..any thoughts?
Thanks,
Renessistance needed here

Posted 20 years ago #South LA, Crenshaw, used to be a diverse hispanic/asian/whites/jews area, and blacks were not able to purchase property there until they passed laws letting blacks own property there, after that most whites moved out and its one of the most populated black areas, Today though, Its mostly blacks and latinos.
Gangsta shizz died down after crack and the 80's, but its still not the safest place to roam around, Im not exactly sure how safe it is around there, I havnt been around there enough to know, but from what I hear when people talk about crenshaw and surroundings is to be carefull..
About six miles from crenshaw macarthur park used to be notorious back in the day for crime, they drained the lake once and pulled out a whole lotts guns, today though its pretty safe dont worry they got survailance and its a family park
You might want to consider housing around west hollywood,
northeast los angeles like glendale, burbank, pasadena, eagle rock
east san fernando which is where Im at, sunland, sun valley, north hollywood etc..
hope this helped.. good luck. -

Posted 20 years ago #Crenshaw is a long Blvd though. This is north of I-10 and like a mile south of Wilshire. I'm not afraid to live around blacks or latinos, a lot of my neighbors in my complex are latino. I was told I-10 is the line between good and hood from another angelino.
We'll see. -
Posted 20 years ago #We'd like to be as close to LARS as possible(on sunset), but housing around there is mad pricey. My internship is off Wilshire a little east of LARS so we're trying to find a balance between both.

Posted 20 years ago #I think you will be fine. Wilshire is a pretty urban intersected area, traffic an all, Wilshire is dense with buisness and the old school buildings of los angeles..
Also you can catch the metro line on wilshire/western to sunset
get ready for some traffic! -
Posted 20 years ago #Yeah, that's cool, I just can't wait to be pumpin the P in their home city.
Florida got some nasty traffic, not as bad as LdotAdot, but at least I'll be used to it. Sometimes it take 15 minutes to get to school here, which is only 1.5 miles away..
I'll tell ya this though, I can't wait for the eat spots
And the diggin, and lack of humidity. It'll be ill though, I know about a dozen cats moving to the greater la area same time as me, so I'll be able to chill with some familiar faces every once in a while.
oh, got a new site with me and my homie on the mic, of course I did the beats
