People Under The Stairs - Stepfather

This is ill for me. I've known Thes and Double K of PUTS for a long ass time. So my love and appreciation for their music runs deep. I filmed them a good amount during the period from their first album to their 2nd. Which was like right before they really started touring extensively and becoming worldwide underground icons. My fondest memories of the guys were always just simple sh!t like hanging out on Thes' porch drinking beer in L.A. They are some of the funnest and funniest guys I know in the game. I know the grind took a toll by their 4th and 5th releases on Om Records and there were even rumours of the two callin it quits, but thankfully they re-connected in Thes's new studio at his home in San Pedro. I have yet to be there, but from the last time I saw his studio in Mid City (around the completion of OST) he had some seriously illotic analog things going on, a big-ass board he built, mad plug ins and a bunch of other sh!t that is beyond my frame of reference and intellegence in regards of gear.

I don't want to slash out too-too much info about the album though.Why, i dont really know. I will be writing about it in some magazines that is for sure. And maybe I can do a feature somewhere? There are 20 tracks (word up). No guests except the one and only George Clinton as well as Monty from Stark Reality.
And the cute keyboard player from longtime Thes One lovers Crown City Rockers (aka Mission: or ... if you guess Rashaan's first group you'll get a prize).

The production is the albums driving force. And while I've actually always really enjoyed their chemestry as emcees, going back and forth together. This may be the first album of theirs were I personally was focusing more on the music. Primarily, because there is a lot of things going on. Thes really took this one out there in some aspects. I don't have credits, so I don't know how much Double K produced (although I imagine he did the cut w/ Clinton, coz I know there were hanging at some point).

If you can recall "The Outrage" from OST or "Run" from Or Stay Tuned, the technic is explored further on 'Stepfather'. Oh yeah, the mentor Phill Most Chill the Soulman makes a small cameo too (as does their family friend the raggea dude from "OST").
The intro is wild, it sounds like YES. The overall feeling I get from this album, after about 5 consecutive listens, is sort of this Steely Dan meets prog-rock meets Sunnyview records meets the usual superior PUTS ethos/production/stylism.

I have no idea what the singles are off of this, but it seems not to really matter. This album meshes more than anything. I wonder what differences came up from leaving Om Records and going to Basement, and if any thing was easier or harder in creating the album?

I haven't seen the guys since the show I put on in Eureka, CA
with them (a long term goal of mine, which was a huge success!)
with Dooley O, me, others. I miss them, they rock the house and have shown a lot of smaller groups the way. This album is not like OST in many ways. They are calling it more progressive. I need more listens. It's an awesome album, it'll be great for the Summer time (drops in April). You'll be hearing more from me about this in the future ...

Is there any album art out yet? I'm such a sucker for good album art (College Dropout, Donuts, Further Advetures of Lord Quas, O.S.T., Elvis Costello - Armed Forces)

Its stupid how excited I am to get this album... I'm devoting a whole day to listening to it the day it comes out... I don't care about school, sports, or any other committment.. the 18th is Stepfather Day.
