Posted 19 years ago #I'm trying to bring a down-sized form of a setup to school with me so I can make some progress throughout the year. Basically what I want to do is get some vinyl loops and record a couple beats (without drum lines) and then take the loop tracks to a friend's house to finalize the beats. I currently own an SP-303 sampler, a turntable, and a busted Vestax mixer. I'm looking to buy a four-track to record my loops. So my first question is Can I record my loops through headphones, or do I need monitor speakers? and second, Do I need a mixer for my setup? Thanks. peace

4 tracks are a waste of energy/money/time. -
Posted 19 years ago #I don't have nearly enough space on my computer for a program, so I'm going with the hardware path. I like the experience of using fourtracks and samplers and drum machines and what not anyway. Thanks though.

Aww, But it takes blood, sweat, and soul to comand a 4 track. Any one can just up load some sh!t to a computer and loop tracks, cut and paste, and make it sound perfect. I have frooty loops but I just like Sittin' behind a 4 track crankin on it till it sound just right "thats love". Murs explains the love of 4 tracks best on the "Walk like a Man" Movie.
I know Dj Alibi has more ground to stand on than me sayin' this sh!t but Ive been doin' this sh!t for 6 years know and I just think workin' with the tools of old allows me to feel more intouch with those who have come before me, as well as the feelin' after your done with the 4 track beat. I don't know man I'm just ramblin'.
Love and respect to 4 tracks, pro tools, frooty loops, scratch live, ect.
Just put your soul into it, love what you do and do it good. -

Posted 19 years ago #Ok I fixed my mixer up, hooked up my set up. I have a small stash of records, and here's a beat I "produced". I recorded lyrics over it, but I just uploaded the beat. Check it out and tell me what you think. Thanks. peace: http://www.soundclick.com/grassgrow
