Posted 19 years ago #i dont understand grime... sh!t beats, sh!t rhyming, sh!t topics.

Posted 19 years ago #it's more about the energy of it than anything else. attitude and wordplay.
its like its restricted to one part of london or something. is there anyone over 25 involved in grime?

Posted 19 years ago #yeah, you only get grime in east London. and it makes me sick. you get on the bus and there are stupid kids in their ecko tracksuits that their mother bought them yesterday from JJB sports who think that they like hip-hop or rap but when you invoke a conversation about music the extent of their knowledge is Slim Shady and The Game, they ask me what i'm listening to and i say "They Reminisce Over You by Pete rock & C.L. smooth" and they ask if its rock or they say "datz sum next music bruv" But back to my point, these kids sit there talking about it or playing it through their phone, and its that incessant noise and unbroken voices that brings me back to reality when there is a 2 second pause between tracks coming out of my earphones, specially bought so that i don't have to hear people talk about "dat breh hu tinks 'e iz fittdy sent"

Posted 19 years ago #i don't like grime in the same way i don't like country music. except country music fans arent 15 year old dickheads who dont realise headphones exist and play grime on full volume on the train so all you can hear is the craxschscxxcahkarrsch bass

Posted 19 years ago #Speaking of UK music. Has anyone heard of Jamie T? This girl at one of my jobs was raving to me about him, so I went and listened and was thinking... "This doesn't really sound too much like hip-hop" but he describes himself as so. I mean, I only heard one ACTUAL break-beat. He's kinda sing-songy.

yeah he gets quite a bit of radio play in the uk. he isnt hyped as a hip hop artist over here, its just less commercial pop music. -
