Unfortunately, I can't help you. I don't know if you'll ever get to the end of this but that's not my problem. What follows explains why talent is so rare.
Your myspace site confirms what I've always said about hip hop - 99% of somebody else's material. That is not *real* creativity because it's like my 4 yr old grand daughter cutting out bits of faces in different pictures to make her own. At 4, that's cute but when you're an adult that is merely RE-writing, RE-recording & RE-producing other peoples work, that demonstrates lack of real talent.
If you use other people's work without their permission via MCPS (Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society) who act as the agent for songwriters in the UK & sub-agents for others worldwide, then that is copyright *theft* and there are penalties. All it takes is for 1 single radio dj to play that stuff and then the world - including the REAL creator, knows where you got your stuff and the fallout won't be nice. Not only do you get a bad reputation but you lose the earnings and have to pay damages and even grovel & pay extra to lessen the bad publicity & shame.
Only 1 man - MC Hammer ever paid James Brown - the most sampled man on the planet, for using his music and that is shameful. Luckilly, he can afford to do without that money & can't be bothered to sue the guys.

Sorry I couldn't be more positive to you but we all have our own groove and you could get very rich re-working samples but it's not for me. I sleep easy knowing I'm a musician and not a samplist.

well sounds like an A Grade asshole to me.....if he would take the time and try to make some hip hop it AS hard to make something NEW from old records as to make "real music" i do both and they offer different creative roads........as for "you could get very rich re-working samples" that f***ing sh!t...with digging hard you can get away with royalties but most crews make their money from touring, just look at UD or PUTS, infact every band make their doe from touring..man i could gone on about what a pile of crap the above is but i'd be wasteing my time and valuable bandwidth.... -

from the perspective of someone has not develed neck deep into this Hip Hop sh!t. I look at samplin' as chance to breathe new life into some old tracks that will probably never would have seen the light of day had not been for me sittin' in a cold ass f**king' car hole or basement dustin' the dead bug's off the stacks of lp's lookin' for that perfect sample or stumbalin' upon a phat floor stomper. (workin' in chicago I get many oppertunities to talk to some older funkatiers that don't mind lettin' me dig through there sh!t for $50.) IT'S ALL ART!!! So don't let that fool discurage you. I would also like to say don't be a hipocrite and do what the author of the letter which was simply to talk out of his ass before doin' any research on the subject or genre of music (even country/bluegrass there are some gangsta tales that came from the wild west). Maybe had he taken the time to read a little on the subject he would know that MC Hammer was not the only one to Pay James Brown royalties for use of his music in a hip hop composition.

As for hip hop......I can't even get my dad to understand that it is a genuine art form that requires a special ear, knowledge, and the patients to wait for that perfect sample on that unfinished track that you have been workin on. You know the one........ the one that you tried a million different sounds on and you still ain't got it right. If my MPC could talk it would say.... give it a rest buddy!! -

Posts: 20Posted 19 years ago #Judgeing by this dudes comments, this guy has to be underpaid or is some sort of failing musician. Sorry he took it out on you! This guy is very ignorant to the fact that sampling is *real* creativity. Its just as real as anything else. It may not take as much practice to make a basic beat as it would to learn to control the sounds of a piano or trumpet. But i think if he did a little research on what really goes into producing something like Jay Dee's Donuts, he would quickly change his mind. Sampling may fall into a different category of music, but it's still creativity. In the end it's up to the beatsmith to decide how creative he wants to be and how far he wants to take it. -

Posts: 508Posted 19 years ago #agreed with all of the above....its about what is art......art is something you do to give meaning to or to convay a feeling ect, thoughtless sampling isn't...like some of the cheap sh!t you hear in the charts....when i hook up a loop i'm not just thinking this sounds good i'm thinking what am i trying to say, then make a beat to go with it.... -

Some people are still in denial about the creativity and art that goes into sampling. So much "good" music today (meaning music that is "written") is f**king trash, practically everything popular today so formulated it's hard distinguish between artists.

shed loads of other bands toured with hendrix and stuff nothing special,.....plus the rest of the list goes down hill very quickly i'd want to keep working with eddy grant & Matt Aitkin very hush hush if i was him.
